Padme band

Padme was formed in 2015 in Istanbul, by three morons who wanted to play fast music very loud. The band initially came together as a cover band and was booked for a show at a festival just for fun. After the festival it became obvious very quickly how much the three friends enjoyed playing together, so they left the cover songs behind and started working on originals in both English and Turkish language. The set turned out to be straight forward, withsongs bold and energetic, and with that energy Padme was born and kept on going. Their first EP “Re-Vizyon” was released a year later in 2016 and the first LP “Bugün”, which means “today” in Turkish, addressing topics such as day-to-day social- and political struggle, followed shortly after in 2017. The album caught attention and Padme started playing various shows with beloved punk bands around Turkey. After making themselves a name in their home country, the band was ready to venture further.Playing B-Fest in Athens was their first introduction to Europe in May 2017. The experience was such a energy boost to the band that it wasn’t long until their second album was finished and released in 2018. As the band grew, their sound also got more refined, yet faster and more aggressive in its elements and sounds.

“IBAN TR75 0006 2000 7170 0006 6006 13”, an album title hinting at how everything is focused on money, is based around how cheap it is to take a life but how costly it is to live one, with lyrics about opposition of war and violence and the scars left by the oppressive systems people are up against. But it’s also about how to find strength in each other. With the album in the bag, more festivals were played in Greece and the band became even hungrier to play more shows. All members of the band are part of the Turkey-based music and art collective Parazit Kolektif, a collective that hosts live shows, makes fanzines, holds art exhibitions and in general keeping the DIY spirit alive in Istanbul and all over Turkey. Parazit Kolektif has been hosting both local and international artists; one example is a show for Punk Rock band Not on Tour from Tel Aviv, Israel in 2018, where Padme joined on stage as support. After playing shows and festivals and gigs in Turkey and Greece the band is hungry for more and can’t wait to explore and experience shows and the live culture in Europe in 2019
