1. How and when did you join Doom
and what was your first roll in the band ?
Denis Boardman- I joined Doom in the end of 1995 . At the time there was a planned tour for Scandinavia and Scoot who is now playing bass in the band , had been playing bass in the band for maybe a year or so, he had some personal problems with his then girlfriend and basically he couldn't do the tour so they asked him if he wants to leave and he said yeah. Anyways, I have been like a friend of the band and meeting up with them on gigs and you know Doom were my fucking idols since I first saw them in 1987 because in England nobody was really doing the Discharge thing. So Doom was influenced more by Swedish hardcore. Of course there was influence by Discharge but there was kinda more influence by the Swedish bands like Discard. When Doom went in the studio for the first time they actually took the Discard demo and said to the producer “We wanna sound like this.“
2. Of
all the songs from Doom, which one you enjoy playing the most ?
Denis Boardman – That's a fuckin' tricky
one.
All for one and one for all - It's surely Police Bastard haha.
Denis Boardman- Nope, everybody in the band actually hates „Police Bastard“ because
it's so „famous“.
All for one and one for all - I think that doesn't matter, I think it's „famous“ because it's a
good song.
Denis Boardman- Yeah, it is a good song but I think the record cover and name
of the song are better than the actual fuckin' song. Anyways it's kinda like with
the „Ace of spades“ with Motörhead for instance, they have to play the „Ace of spades“ and it's
like “Oh fuckin' no, we have to do that!“ and that's how we feel about „Police
bastard“. Yeah, it's a good song, but we don't feel like it's our best song.
You know we are kind of known for that song but we don't really want to be
known just because of a fuckin' „Police bastard“ song.
3.Could you give some advice
to the underground scene ?
Denis Boardman – Well...Where do you start?
I mean I have been in the underground scene since I was a fucking litle kid and
now i'm 48. The thing is, either you are there or not, you like the music or
you fuckin' don't. I know some people join for a while and they give up because
of family life or they just don't like the music anymore, however the most
dangerous people are the fuckin' fanatics who join and become prominent in the
scene and they have influence over the people because they are smart talkers, its
kind of if you have watched "the lord's of chaos" film you know the
fuckin' "Varg Vikernes" Christian Vikernes, he was a fanatic. Put it
this way, how old are you ?
All for one and one for all - Im 22.
Denis Boardman – Im 48 and I've been in
punk all my life, so I have seen people come and I have seen people go, its
like a movement, but there are "clever" people that can influence the
movement and they can be fuckin' dangerous because it's almost like a fucking religion
or a cult. That's very dangerous cause people don't use their own minds, it is
ok to be influenced by people or ideas but when it's not your own ideas you
think "fuck this shit up, this is who i am? No!" listen to
yourself's. The answer to your question is "Use your own fucking head,
Dont be a dickhead, treat women with respect, ignore idiots, respect each other
and learn to love each other."
4.Could you
say something at the end for the blog „All for one and one for all“?
